What aesthetic medicine is

These are treatments performed by a doctor, after an assessment of indications and contraindications. They reach the dermis and deeper, so they start with qualification, not with choosing a treatment from a list.

Aesthetic medicine or cosmetology

The line is not drawn by price, nor by how a treatment sounds. It is drawn by the layer of skin we reach and by the person who performs the treatment.

Doctor performs injections, fillers, botulinum toxin, threads, fat grafting, ablative and surgical procedures. Cosmetologist works on the condition of the skin: exfoliation, hydration, cleansing, superficial stimulation.

Some concerns are managed with both, in the order agreed at the consultation. Cosmetology treatments are described in the cosmetology section, and light-based therapies in the laser treatments section.

Groups of methods

A division by mechanism of action, not by product name. A trade name does not tell you the indication.

Botulinum toxin

Reduced tension in selected muscles. Beyond aesthetics, it is also used in functional indications.

Mimic wrinkle removal in Katowice Areas where the wrinkle arises from movement, not from a loss of volume.
Hyperhidrosis treatment Primary hyperhidrosis. The secondary form requires prior diagnostic work-up.

Hyaluronic acid

Products with differing degrees of cross-linking. Non-cross-linked ones work on skin quality, cross-linked ones on volume and support.

Hyaluronic acid fillers in Katowice How the products differ and what follows from that at qualification.
Revitalisation Hydration and skin quality. Also known as a skin booster.
Facial volumetry Replacing lost volume and supporting the tissues.
Lips Contour, volume, asymmetry, and also correction after earlier treatments.

Tissue biostimulators

Products whose purpose is to stimulate the tissue to rebuild, not to fill immediately.

Biostimulators, an overview The division into hard, soft and autologous products, and the differences between them.
Firm Calcium hydroxyapatite. Stronger stimulation and a supporting effect.
Soft Polylactic acid and collagen preparations.

Preparations from the patient's own blood

The material is taken from the patient and prepared on site. The absence of an allergy risk to the preparation does not remove the risk of the procedure itself.

Blood-derived preparations, an overview How plasma differs from fibrin and when each method is used.
Platelet-rich plasma PRP, commonly called the vampire lift.
Fibrin A preparation that remains in the tissue longer than plasma.

Threads

Implanted into the tissue, with a supporting or stimulating action, depending on the type of thread.

Thread treatments, an overview Three types of thread and the treatment of complications after procedures performed elsewhere.
Lifting threads Barbed threads, with a supporting action.
Revitalising threads Smooth threads, with a stimulating action.
Filling threads Modelling threads, for small losses of volume.

Surgical procedures and fat tissue

Procedures performed in a procedure room, with qualification at a separate appointment and a period of recovery.

Fat transfer A graft of the patient's own fat tissue. Face, eye area, hands.
Liposuction Removal of localised excess fat tissue.
Skin lesion removal Benign lesions. Lesions that raise doubt are not removed without assessment.
Fractional CO2 laser An ablative procedure carried out by a doctor.

What the path to a treatment looks like

  1. Consultation. A medical history, an assessment of the skin and tissues, a discussion of the options and the limitations. The consultation is a paid appointment, also when it ends with a decision not to carry out a treatment.
  2. Qualification. An assessment of the indications and contraindications for a specific procedure. Some treatments require it at a separate appointment.
  3. Treatment. Performed by a doctor, with recommendations for the period afterwards.
  4. Follow-up. An assessment of healing and of the result. Some therapies are carried out in series, and the number of treatments is set after the tissue response has been assessed.

Not every consultation ends in a treatment. Sometimes the right answer is to postpone it or to refer the patient to another specialist.

What aesthetic medicine does not do

  • It does not stop the skin ageing process. The effect of most procedures is temporary.
  • It does not replace diagnostics. Some lesions require dermatological assessment or tests, not a treatment.
  • It does not replace photoprotection and daily skincare.
  • It does not give the same result in two people, even with the same method.
  • It is not available to everyone. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infections, clotting disorders and some general medical conditions rule out or postpone a treatment.

If you do not know where to start, begin with the problem. The problem pages separate the possible causes before any treatment name appears.

The questions that come up most often

How does aesthetic medicine differ from cosmetology

The line between them is drawn by which layer of the skin a treatment reaches and who performs it. A cosmetologist works on the condition of the skin using superficial methods. A doctor carries out treatments that reach the dermis and deeper: injections, fillers, botulinum toxin, threads, surgical procedures.

Does every treatment require a prior consultation

Every medical treatment requires qualification, that is, an assessment of indications and contraindications by a doctor. For some treatments the qualification takes place at a separate appointment, before the procedure. A consultation without a treatment is a paid appointment, also when it ends with a decision not to perform the treatment.

Does aesthetic medicine mean changing facial features

Not necessarily. Some procedures work on the quality of the skin rather than on shape. Whether proportions are changed is decided by the plan agreed at the consultation, not by the method itself.

Where to start if I do not know the name of the treatment

With the problem, not the method. The site has separate pages for what is visible: wrinkles, discolouration, scars, shadows under the eyes, laxity of the facial contour. Each of them separates the possible causes and states which groups of methods are considered after qualification.

Are aesthetic medicine treatments permanent

No. The effect of most procedures is temporary and requires maintenance, and how long it lasts depends on the method, the area and the individual response of the tissue. No method stops the skin ageing process.

Doctor's consultation

At the consultation we establish what we can see, what can be changed and in what order. Only then does a treatment name appear.
