Clitoral hood reduction

The treatment concerns the skin fold that covers the clitoris, not the clitoris itself. In medical nomenclature: hoodoplasty, the term clitoroplasty is also used. Most often performed together with labiaplasty.

What this treatment involves

The clitoris is covered by a skin fold called the clitoral hood. In some women it is noticeably larger, protrudes or sits asymmetrically. The treatment involves reducing this fold and evening out the proportions with the surrounding tissue.

We do not interfere with the clitoris itself. This is an important distinction: the aim is to remove excess hood tissue, not to change the organ responsible for sensation.

Reported indications:

  • pain during intercourse,
  • discomfort during sports activity and chafing,
  • frequent inflammation of the intimate area linked to a fold that is difficult to keep clean,
  • aesthetic considerations, including asymmetry.

What the procedure looks like

We work with a radiofrequency knife or laser; the classic surgical technique is used less often today. The treatment is performed by a gynaecologist, usually under local anaesthesia. It does not require staying at the clinic.

We most often combine it with labiaplasty or with vaginal plasty, because proportions in this area are assessed as a whole: correcting the labia alone without reducing the fold can be insufficient. The treatment can also be done separately.

The scope is agreed before the treatment. The rule is to be conservative with tissue: it is easier to complete the correction later than to recreate a fragment that is no longer there.

Results of clitoral hood plasty and healing

  • First daysswelling and tenderness of the area, rest advised
  • Return to activityusually a few days, depending on the scope
  • Final appearanceafter a few weeks, once the swelling has subsided

The result is a smaller fold and better proportions of the area, and for some patients less chafing during sport and easier hygiene. We do not promise a change in sexual sensation: the treatment concerns the hood, not the innervation of the clitoris, and it is not a method for improving sensation.

Prices

The price depends on the scope of the treatment. We give a quote at the consultation.

Risk and contraindications

The area is richly innervated and supplied with blood, so the treatment requires experience and careful planning of scope. Possible complications: swelling and pain in the first days, haematoma, wound infection, wound dehiscence, temporary hypersensitivity or reduced sensation around the incision, scarring, persistent asymmetry and excessive tissue removal, which cannot be reversed.

We do not perform this treatment during an active intimate infection, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, in the case of clotting disorders, unstable general health conditions, or when expectations go beyond what the treatment can deliver. We perform it only on adults, at their own request.

Bleeding of unexplained cause, a skin lesion that raises doubt, or symptoms of infection require diagnosis first: when it is not a matter of aesthetics.
